About this artwork

The kingdom of Benin was known for its amazing statues, scenery and colorful design elements many of which remain to this day. This artwork tries to capture that beauty, ranging from the bronze and stone statues to the grandeur of the huts of the royal guards tasked solely with protecting the king. This piece also shows the entrance into the royal palace from the compounds of the guards, the rich geological rock formations found in Benin and the moats encircling the kingdom.
