Silicon Valley African Film Festival announces Magic Carpet Studios’ Surprise: A Christmas Story as one of the films selected to screen in the 2019 Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF), scheduled to hold from October 4 to October 6, 2019, at the Historic Hoover Theatre in San Jose, California, USA.

This invitation comes as a winning move in exporting original African content to the world. This 3D animated video was released last Christmas featuring a chauffeur stuck at work and struggles with being away from his family during Christmas. Surprisingly, his employer invites him in for a Christmas dinner and to his amazement, his family was already seated at the table. The two-minute video infuses African elements in showing the importance of family and closes with the question, what’s Christmas without family?

The Silicon Valley African Film Festival exclusively focuses on films made by African filmmakers in a bid to celebrate diversity and feature more original African stories. This year’s festival will screen 86 films by seasoned filmmakers from 32 African countries to a diverse array of influential, industry leaders from entertainment to fashion, art and business.

Through animated characters, striking visual artistry and engaging stories, Magic Carpet Studios seeks to expand Africa’s capacity to deliver world-class content and at the same time, create a unique viewing experience for their audience.

As telling authentic African stories continues to garner attention globally, this can be counted as a bravo moment and a step in the right direction.
